SPLENDA® is the brand name for sucralose manufactured by Tate & Lyle.

How is SPLENDA® Sucralose made?

SPLENDA® Sucralose is manufactured by a multi-step patented process that starts with sugar. The process selectively replaces three hydrogen-oxygen groups on the sugar molecule with three chlorine atoms. The result is a sweetener that is approximately 600 times sweeter than sugar.

No. SPLENDA® Sucralose is inert and does not interact with other commonly used food ingredients, even after prolonged storage.

Can SPLENDA® Sucralose be used as a direct replacement for nutritive sweeteners such as sugar (sucrose) or glucose syrups?

Depending on the application and local regulations, SPLENDA® Sucralose can be used to replace nutritive sweeteners such as sugar or glucose syrup. In products such as beverages, sucralose can be used to partially or fully replace nutritive sweeteners in order to develop products that have all the perceived sweetness of a full-calorie product. In other food items such as confectionery, ice cream and baked goods, the bulking effects of sugar need to be provided by traditional bulking agents from Tate & Lyle’s extensive ingredient portfolio such as STA-LITE® Polydextrose or maltodextrins.

For more information on Tate & Lyle’s other food ingredients, please visit http://www.tateandlyle.com/

For numerous examples of beverages formulated with SPLENDA® Sucralose, please visit http://www.yourdrinksolutions.com/your_beverages/pages/in_beverages_landing_page.aspx
